Some 320 high school students in Migori County have received education scholarships worth Sh11.2Million from Migori County to enable them pursue their secondary school education.

The 320 were selected for the Governor's Education Merit Grant programme across the 12 sub-counties through established county education committees in the 40 county wards.

Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko said that apart from paying the school fees the programme will also cater for other education costs that may arise during the four years of secondary education.

In May this year Migori County through the Governor’s education scholarship gave out Sh14 Million to cater for the bursary education for 410 learners in various Secondary Schools and Technical Vocational Training Colleges (TVETS).

So far Ayacko’s administration has given out bursaries to more than 21,000 secondary school students.

The Governor promised to ensure learners that were selected for bursary assistance during the previous county administration will continue to benefit from the scheme to ensure they complete their studies undisturbed.

The County boss added that his government will continue to uplift those in vocational training to acquire practical life skills to assist them to be self-reliant in future

He encouraged parents to provide for what was necessary in advancing their children's education instead of over-providing and spending unnecessary utilities for the youngsters.

“Let us teach our children the spirit of sharing and only provide for what is necessary for their upkeep in schools. In doing this, we will build a culture among our children of working hard and appreciating the little that they get," advised Ayacko.
