The United States of America has expressed its commitment to working with the government to enhance access to quality healthcare.
According to the US ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, quality healthcare was the foundation for a strong, thriving community, adding that her team at the US embassy was proud to join hands with Kenyan leaders who give priority to health matters.
She was speaking at Matibabu Hospital in Ukwala, Ugenya sub-county where she had earlier opened a surgical theatre and an intensive care unit. The facilities were constructed through a partnership between US citizens and Tiba Foundation Kenya.
The envoy hailed the construction of the facilities which, she added, will offer top-quality medical care to both Siaya citizens and others from the lake region.
Siaya governor, James Orengo, who also attended the event hailed the cordial relations between the United States and Kenya, saying that this has over the years benefitted the residents of both countries.
Orengo expressed hope that through more partnerships with the US, the burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases in the region will be eased.
