Vanessa Ogema charged

A woman filmed 'throwing tantarums' at the Port Victoria hospital in Busia county has been charged.

An undated video widely shared online last week, showed Vanessa Ogema in the company of a man yet to be identified harassing health workers at the facility.

The suspect was particularly seen throwing files and books on the floor, while verbally assaulting staff at the hospital.

She was arrested over the weekend, before being charged at a court in Port Victoria on Monday.

The 23-year-old Ogema  pleaded not guilty to four charges including destruction of property, creating disturbance likely to cause a breach of peace, and preventing a public officer from conducting duty.

Port Victoria Senior Principal magistrate Ann Karimi released the young woman on a Sh200,000 bond.

The matter will be mentioned on 17th January, 2024.

Venessa and the man in question had reportedly arrived at the hospital with a sick person presumed to be a relative in need of urgent medication.

The duo wanted their patient attended to before other patients who had arrived earlier. Nurses at the health facility would hear none of it.

That is when drama started. She 'swung into action' throwing books and files on the floor, threatening to call one Ababu, believed to be Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Sports Ababu Namwamba.

The CS in a statement later condemned the ugly scene.

The suspect is a student at Nairobi Women Hospital College (NWHC).
