The African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) has struck a collaborative deal with the Vihiga County Government aimed at boosting community health care systems.
The AMREF Health Africa Country Director Dr. Meshack Ndirangu said they would be undertaking community anti-Tuberculosis (TB) activities, running malaria combating programmes as well as developing oxygen infrastructure.
Dr. Ndirangu stated that they were going to carry out mass drug administration for deworming which is targeting over one million school going children, offer training to Community Health Promoters (CHPs) and doing research with focus on neglected tropical diseases.
On his part, Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo said the county already has data collected through the Geo- spatial Information System (GIS) that will guide the implementation of the programmes.
He emphasized the need for embracing data-driven decision making for the realization of efficiency and effectiveness in the execution of services and implementation of development projects.
