Waiguru calls for Uhuru-Ruto handshake

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has called for a handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy William Ruto.
Speaking on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, Waiguru said the people of Kirinyaga will not accept being dictated on who to elect, noting they are wise and sober to make their own decision and choose their own preferred leaders.
She also dismissed allegations by President Kenyatta that DP Ruto plotted to impeach him, arguing that it is a ploy by the head of state to tarnish the DP's name.

Waiguru added that what the president uttered is only propaganda aimed to downplay the deputy president and create a negative impression about him in the eyes of the people of Mt Kenya. She reiterated that the people won't fall for that.
"We know the person who wanted to overthrow you, the person who swore himself as the people’s president but not the deputy president, Mr president stop giving false information to the people of mt Kenya," she said.
Waiguru also urged the president to use the remainder of his term to mend fences with the deputy president and retire peacefully.
‘’Don’t engage in succession politics, Mr president be neutral and leave people to compete. The people of Kenya will choose their own candidate whom they trust and believe to lead them as their fifth president," the governor stated.
She advised President Kenyatta to reshuffle the people around him, claiming that they are misleading him.
Waiguru reiterated that it is not impossible for the president and the deputy to re-unite since they have worked together before.
