Traders in Butula Centre woke up to a rude shock after they found a watchman killed and their business merchandise stolen on Tuesday morning.
According to Mary Wanyama, a wholesaler at the centre, the unknown thieves broke into her stores and made away with her belongings.
“Today in the morning, I found my stores broken into and 20 bags of sugar and 80 jerricans of cooking fat stolen,” she said,
Another trader Ms Awori, said that she was alerted by some strange calls early on Tuesday morning while she was preparing to open her business.
“I heard somebody calling for help and decided to alert other nearby people for assistance,” she said adding that they later found one person dead and four others injured at the scene.
The angry local residents demanded to know why there is insecurity at the centre yet it is just a few kilometres from the police station. They demanded for the immediate transfer of police officers at the station suspecting some of them to have participated in the killings.
Confirming the incident, Butula Deputy County Commissioner Pamela Otieno said that the body of the deceased was moved to Sega hospital mortuary while the other four who sustained injuries were rushed to Matungu Sub County hospital for treatment.
Otieno urged the local residents to volunteer information that can assist in investigation and arrest of the suspected criminals.
