Water from Notruesh in Loitoktok to Konza city

A team from Machakos, Makueni, Kajiado Counties and Konza technopolis is on a fact-finding mission to fast-track water from Notruesh water catchment area to reach Konza technopolis as soon as possible.

During the tour in Kajiado South Sub County on Tuesday, team leader Josephine Ouko, County Commissioner, Machakos County said the team is visiting the Notruesh springs, pump station and Solar system in Loitoktok for assessment of their condition.

Ouko further noted that a Sh8 million pending bill that had accumulated during the tenure of a previous water company before it was taken over by Loitoktok Water and Sewerage Company which is partnering with Athi water will be cleared by the three counties.

She added that the team is proposing each county to be responsible for the bills from its bulk water metre which will be strategically placed.

The County Commissioner said the concern of the team is the security of the water pipeline from Kajiado to Konza City adding that the pipeline requires 24-hour surveillance.

She however noted that the team will organize a meeting with security agencies from the three counties to deliberate on the issue.

On community ownership, Ouko said the team proposes the community within the pipeline to be involved through sensitization to own the project and hence enhance its security.

Kajiado County Executive Committee Member in charge of Water, Leina Mpoke noted that the existing water pipeline is dilapidated and worn out hence needing repair and proposed a second line to be established to enhance efficiency in water supply to Konza City.

Mpoke noted that though the county has a challenge of investment in water, the county is ready to sacrifice and ensure the water reaches its destination in Machakos.

The project covers a stretch of about 120 km from Notruesh water catchment area to Konza Technopolis.
