We are ready for talks with the Azimio team, bipartisan co-chairperson says Kenya Kwanza Bipartisan Committee co-chairperson Gitonga Murugara has affirmed that the ruling coalition team was ready for talks with the Azimio team to ensure the country was peaceful.

Murugara who is also the Tharaka MP blamed their counterparts from the Azimio team for insincerity saying they have always been ready for the talks but they have always been frustrated by the other side.

“Up to this moment, I can say the other team is not serious with the talks. If they want to become serious, they can come back to us and I confirm we are ready for the talks,” said Mr Murugara.

On Tuesday, June 27, 2023, Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party leader Raila Odinga announced that the outfit had exited bipartisan talks with Kenya Kwanza.

Speaking during a public rally at Kamkunji grounds, Odonga announced the start of civil disobedience against the government especially after President William Ruto assented to the Finance Bill.

“Having imposed on us the punitive taxation measures contained in the Finance Act 2023 in complete disregard of our views, we declare an end to the bipartisan talks to which we had sent our delegation in the hope that Kenya Kwanza could show interest in resolving pro-people issues including the rising cost of living. It is now time for action," Raila added.
