Wetang'ula's advise to members of the bipartisan talks team
By Peter Ochieng
National Assembly Speaker Moses Masika Wetang'ula has offered a piece of advise to members of the Azimio-Kenya Kwanza bipartisan talks team.
He wants them to guard against differences that can scuttle the talks.
Speaking at Chwele Girls High School in Sirisia, Bungoma county on Friday during a funds drive, Wetang'ula said the talks are anchored in Parliament, insisting that he will guard against any attempts to scuttle them.
He expressed concern over the war of words between members of the Kenya Kwanza and Azimio, urging them to focus on the agendas of the talks.
"I have seen Members of the bi partisan talks wrangling. I urge them not to lose the plot, equation and direction. Be focused and bring equality the president has desired the country to have," he said.
Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka leads the Azimio team in the talks, while leader of majority in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung'wah headlines the Kenya Kwanza team.
Concerning the sugar bill before the National Assembly, Wetang'ula said he was optimistic that it would get the approval of MPs.
"I was in Mombasa and with all chairpersons of committees in the National Assembly to discuss the Bill. I want to assure farmers that it will be given the attention it deserves and a clean bill of health."
"The Bill carries the potential to usher in substantial changes to the sugar sector for the benefit of farmers who have been suffering because of dwindling fortunes of the sector," added Wetang'ula.
The Bill is sponsored by Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe. Sirisia MP Major John Waluke pledged to rally legislatures behind the Bill.
"We support Speaker Wetang'ula and Hon Mudavadi as our senior most leaders. Our unity will see them have power to burgain for development projects for our people in the government," said the lawmaker.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi was among leaders present.
