World Vision has observed that a lot of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in West Pokot County lack access to various services that can make them live with dignity.
Programmes Manager Tom Masinde says that as World Vision they will continue to partner with all stakeholders to ensure persons with disabilities in the region get equal opportunities to improve their livelihoods.
“First we carry out an assessment on gender equality and social inclusion where we look at persons with disabilities where they are, so that the services we give them can be disability friendly,” said Masinde.
He pointed that through their efforts they constructed classrooms to enable children living with disabilities to access education.
Masinde disclosed that they have partnered with the Ministry of Health to ensure that there are preventive services so as to curb emergence of disabilities through working on issues of immunization and nutrition so that we have children who are born normal.
“We have children who are born normal but along the way get disabilities because they lacked immunization and proper nutrition. Because part of this county is Arid and Semi-Arid, persons with disabilities become extremely vulnerable,” explained the Programmes Manager.
