Youths challenged to utilise multiple opportunities available

Youths in Nandi County should utilize opportunities available to them to better their lives instead of engaging in drug and substance abuse.
County Commissioner Caroline Mueni during her exclusive interview with KNA Tuesday urged the youths to utilise multiple avenues endowed in the county to advance their talents and careers.
Mueni noted that Nandi County which is known for producing some of the finest athletes in the world should be taken as an opportunity by youth who want to advance their talents through sports.
Mueni promised to work closely with other relevant government agencies, and other non-state actors to ensure Nandi youths are protected from harmful practices, for instance the use of hard drugs and substance abuse which poses the biggest threat to their future advancement.
She said that the government will not relent on war against consumption of outlawed liquor and the use of drugs.
The climatic and geographical terrain of the county according to her places Nandi at a point which should be envied by any serious young person serious to change their lives.
“Outside sports talents, the county’s rich soil and plenty of rain is enough to keep youth busy by producing more to feed our nation,” Mueni said.
She asked parents and teachers to play their roles well while shaping the lives of the young people.
Mueni expressed confidence that caregivers for instance teachers and parents should always show appropriate direction to the children as they grow in order to protect them from alcoholism and drug addiction.
“I believe in early nurturing as a sure strategy of directing our children towards appropriate direction when they are still young,” Commissioner Mueni insisted.
The County Commissioner asked well-wishes to join the war against alcoholism and drug addiction among mostly youths who are dependent for the continuity of the society.
She revealed that Victor Okioma, Chief Executive Officer for Kenya’s National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse will soon be visiting the proposed Kaprisang alcoholism and drug addiction rehabilitation Centre within Kapsabet town.
Mueni said that the NACADA boss visitation is part of government’s commitment to ensure that those who have been ruined by drugs and alcohol addiction are assisted to renew their lives.
The Kaprisang alcoholism and drug addiction rehabilitation Centre is the brainchild of National Government Affirmative Action Funds.
