12 people perish in grisly road accident Mbooni

Twelve people perished, while 7 others sustained serious injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in lost control and rolled several times, before landing into a ditch along Kikima- Kali Machakos Road Saturday evening.

The 5.55pm accident occurred at Kwa-Mbisu, Kikiini Sub Location in Nzeveni location, Mbooni West sub county after the driver lost control of the vehicle Toyota KCQ 920H belonging to the Makos Sacco.

The ill-fated vehicle was heading to Machakos Town after leaving Kikima- town Saturday.

Confirming the incident, Mbooni West Sub County Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Stanlaus Apwoka said, "The accident claimed 10 people on the spot, while two others succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the Mbooni Subcounty Hospital.

 Apwoka warned motorists to be extra vigilant, especially during this festive season, adding that the driver of the ill-fated vehicle is among the injured.

"The government will not condone reckless driving on our roads and those found flouting traffic rules, will face the full force of the law," warned the DCC.

On his part, the county Chief Officer for health Stephen Ndolo said they were making every effort to treat those who had been injured during the accident.
