Two Kenyans and a Malawian have been arraigned at an Indian court shortly after arriving from Dubai.
The trio were found with heroin worth Ksh1.7 billion shillings (Rs 113 Crore) at the airport in Kolkata before they were nabbed by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).
Times of India reported that the authorities found 14 packets of heroin in the bag and it was believed that the consignment was destined for Delhi.
Media outlets from the South Asian country also reported on Sunday, April 3, that upon their arrest, the two Kenyans are said to have argued that they were in the South Asian country on a medical visa, specifically for a check-up in New Delhi which prompted the officials to proceed with the search where they discovered that the contraband had been stored at the false bottom of the luggage.

Over recent months, India has emerged among the top destination for contraband goods ranging from drugs to fake Gold bars.
It is not the first time Kenyans are arrested for the possession of contraband goods ranging from drugs to fake Gold bars.
More than five Kenyans in the last two months have been arraigned upon touchdown in the South Asian country for being in possession of illegal goods.
Earlier in March, in one of the country’s airports, two Kenyans were arrested by Indian security agencies after they were nabbed trying to sneak heroin worth Ksh900 million (60 million Rupees) shortly after arriving at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in the city of Ahmedabad.
The same month towards the end, two Kenyans were also arrested at an Indian Airport while in the process of smuggling gold valued at Ksh113 million.
Both operations were led by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) which is the premier intelligence and enforcement agency of the Government of India on anti-smuggling matters.
