Residents of Ahero have asked the Kenya National Highway Authority (KenHA) to erect bumps on the Ahero Katito road at Ayweyo junction saying it was a blackspot that has claimed many lives.
Awasi Onjiko Ward MCA Maurice Ngeta claimed he has made countless appeals to KenHA but the body has failed to take any action on installing the bumps.
“We have mourned more than four people whose lives were lost on the stretch of the road from Ahero junction to Katito where the corner near RC has claimed countless pedestrians but KenHA people have yet to take any action even as we lose our school children like Elkina Odhiambo and Adrian Otieno,” pointed Ngeta.
Ngeta pointed out that the opinion of the locals was not sought prior to the construction of the road and warned that he would organize a massive demonstration to compel KenHA to take urgent action that would deter speeding motorists who were common along that road especially at Ayweyo junction.
“As the area MCA, I condemn the road and warn that if KenHA doesn’t take urgent remedy, the residents of Awasi and Onjiko will meet and block the road till they act because the road has claimed many of our people,” declared the MCA.
