All set for elections after FKF’s Special General Meeting

Members of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) General Assembly on Saturday successfully held the Special General Meeting, ahead of the elections.

According to FKF website, 89 delegates were in attendance, among them representatives from the 45 FKF branches as well as the 18 FKF Premier League, 10 FKF National Super League, 3 FKF Women Premier League, 2 FKF Women National Super League and 10 FKF Division One League teams.

Top on the agenda was the adoption of decisions by the National Executive Committee, adoption of the newly composed Electoral Board, as well as the 2019/2020 Electoral Code.

Members present voted to pass the Electoral Board members, composed of Hesbon Owilla, James Waindi, Alfred Ngang’a, Dan Mule, and Marceline Sande.

Standby members are Farida Lucia Juma and Robert Akumu Asembo. The delegates also voted to adopt the amended Electoral Code, which will now be in force for the upcoming elections.

The revised code provides for those contesting for the FKF presidency to have been active in football matters for the past two years before the election.

Under the initial code, they were required to have been active in the last three years before the elections, either as players, officials or administrators. The amendment was proposed by Tusker FC chairman, Charles Gacheru.

Murang’a SEAL Vice Chairman Hussein Mohammed who was among those who attended the meeting, said he is now set to announce his bid for the FKF presidency.

“I will be announcing on August 28, my candidature for the elections. All the details will be announced there,” he said.

“I’m happy, at least today you see me here, remember last time I could not be allowed. We have essentially started in earnest the journey towards the elections, which for me is very important. I thank all the delegates for the progress made. We have a big duty ahead of us and I want to believe we will get there.”

Following the meeting, the electoral board will now be mandated with conducting the elections in the coming days.
