Brighton demolishes Manchester United in EPL Clash
By Robert Mutasi
Brighton & Hove Albion secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Manchester United at the Amex Stadium on Saturday, August 24th, 2024.
The late winner from Joao Pedro in the 90+5th minute sealed the deal for Brighton, who now sit comfortably in the top four of the Premier League table.
The match was a thrilling encounter from start to finish.
Danny Welbeck opened the scoring for Brighton in the 32nd minute, assisted by Kaoru Mitoma.
However, Manchester United's Amad Diallo equalized in the 60th minute with a deflected shot.
The game appeared to be heading towards a draw until Pedro's late heroics. Assisted by Simon Adinga, Pedro headed the ball home from close range to give Brighton the victory.
Despite Manchester United's efforts to equalize again, Brighton managed to hold on and secure the three points.
Since the league's inception in the 2024–25 season, Brighton Hove Albion manager Fabio Hurzeler has recorded six points.
He said that his players deserved the win because they gave it their all and expressed gratitude for their efforts.
“It was very emotional, always when you get the win in the last minute it is,” said Hurzeler.
“I think we deserved to win. I’m very proud of the team, they showed the value of never giving up and that’s very important to me. After their offside goal we started to control the game again. In the end, I think we deserved to win.”
On the other hand, Manchester United boss Erick ten Hag said that the conceded goals were avoidable but his boys did not make any effort of blocking.
"We had control for large stretches of the game, so it is very disappointing," ten Hag remarked.
"We conceded two very avoidable goals when we were in possession of the ball and dominating the game." When we ought to have performed better as a unit, we gave up two easy goals," he continued.
