Arteta: We want to win the league title

By Peter Ochieng

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta insists they want to win the English Premier League (EPL) title this season.

He says his side's recent slump has helped them reinvent the wheel, as they prepare for the 2022/2023 season's run in.

Arsenal face Southermpton on Friday night, in what will be the team's 32nd league match of the season, before facing rivals Manchester City on Wednesday next week.

The City game may after all decide winner of the title in May.

The manager backed his charges to bounce back from two successive draws against West Ham and Liverpool.

The Gunners went ahead in both ties, before collapsing in the second half.

But the coach maintains that is part of the game, as he expects his side to make a quick return to winning ways.

"Very confident. Twists and turns are part of anything you do, especially in football," he as quoted by BBC during a press conference ahead of facing Southermpton.

"It's not always going to be a linear progression and you have to know that. The way the team reacted was incredibly positive and we want to see that. What we can say is that our players have full belief in what we do. We know what is at stake is incredibly beautiful and we want to fight for it."

He added. "It is in our hands and we want to do it. We have to focus on what we have and the reasons why we dropped those points. The margins are so small and they have to go your way to get the result you want and also the result you deserve."

Arsenal lead the standings with 74 points, four above second placed Manchester City. City have a game in hand.

On the other hand, Southermpton is bottom of the table with a paltry 23 points.
