Babu Owino denounces resignation from Parliamentary association
By Peter Ochieng
Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino is back as the secretary general, Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association (KYPA).
On Monday, the second term MP denied allegations that he had been ousted from his role, claiming that he had resigned to focus on some urgent matters related to the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya, a political formation he associates with.
"I stepped down, Hon. Mark Mwenje also stepped down as Deputy Secretary General since he is now Minority Whip and Hon. Hezena Lemaletian stepped down as Treasurer and we gave these opportunities to other members," stated the lawmaker, shortly after news filtered through that he had been kicked out of KYPA leadership, and replaced by nominated MP Irene Mayaka.
“We did meet as 15 members of Parliament from the Azimio Coalition and I decided as Babu Owino to step down from my position as secretary general," he added.
However, the legislature on Friday said he is back as the bona-fide KYPA SG, adding that he is now on a mission to punish coup plotters in the association.
"Only the secretary general can call for the elections or write a letter to the registrar of societies dully signed to notify the registrar of any changes made.”
Owino stated that they still recognise Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi as the association's chairperson and Babu as the the secretary general.
During his university days, he served as chairman, Students Organisation of Nairobi University (SONU).
The MP whose real name is Paul Ongili previously stated that his dream is to serve as president of Kenya.
Before then, he is looking foward to contesting for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2027.
KYPA was established in 2004, as an exclusive club for MPs under the age of 40 years.
