Former US President Barack Obama and former first Lady Michelle Obama have officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democratic nominee for United States presidential race.
“Michelle and I couldn’t be prouder to endorse you and to do everything we can to get you through this election and into the Oval Office,” The Obama's told Harris on a joint phone call courtesy of a video released on Friday 26,July, 2024 .
Harris has now received the full backing off all Democratic Party's top figures including President Joe Biden.
The Vice President appreciated the incredible support from the Obama's which will be integral in her bid for the Democratic ticket owing to the fact that Obama has been an influential figure in the party playing a huge role in Biden's victory over Trump in 2020.
“Oh my goodness. Michelle, Barack, this means so much to me. I’m looking forward to doing this with the two of you, Doug and I both. And getting out there, being on the road,” the vice president said.
Michelle couldn't hide her impression on how much she rooted for Harris, terming her Candidacy 'Historic'.
“I can’t have this phone call without saying to my girl, Kamala, I am proud of you. This is going to be historic,” she told Harris.
The Obama's expressed their utmost confidence on the Harris ticket.
“But Kamala has more than a resume,” the statement said. “She has the vision, the character, and the strength that this critical moment demands. There is no doubt in our mind that Kamala Harris has exactly what it takes to win this election and deliver for the American people.”
At a time when the stakes have never been higher, she gives us all reason to hope.” They said.
The Democratic Party is expected to conduct it's National Convention on August 19th to 22 in Chicago where the delegates will cast roll call votes for the Presidential nominee and a voice vote for Vice President nominee.
Kamala Harris hopes to make history of her own as the first woman and woman of colour elected to lead the country.
Harris’s bid against Republican candidate and former President Donald Trump continues to gain steam from supporters, donors and politicians less than a week after Biden bowed out of the race over pressure due to his disastrous presidential debate performance against Trump that increased pressure from inside the Democratic party calling for him to drop his re-election bid.
More than 100,000 predominantly white women joined a Zoom call to raise money for Harris and discuss strategy.
A series of polls conducted since Biden ended his reelection bid on Sunday show Harris and Trump beginning their head-to-head contest on close odds as they enter 3-and - a half months of intense campaigns.
A New York Times/Siena College national poll published Thursday found Harris has narrowed what had been a sizable Trump lead. Trump was ahead of Harris 48% to 46% among registered voters, compared with a lead of 49% to 41% over Biden in early July.
