Brookside Dairy pays MP Sh500, 000

Brookeside Dairy Limited has 'coughed out' over Sh500, 000 to settle Nyali MP Mohamed Ali's debt.

The debt resulted from a failed defamation suit against the second term legislature.

The company had sued the vocal lawmaker for alleged inciting members of the public against its products, aimed at causing economic harm.

However, in October 2022, High court ruled in favour of Ali, who was reelected on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party in August, 2022.

The company in a letter to Ali's lawyers confirmed settling the debt.

“As a matter of abundant caution, and in the event the ex-parte orders are not granted we hereby enclose our cheque in the sum of Sh579,126 towards payment of the figure stated in the said proclamation."

"This payment is made without prejudice to the said application and in any event without admission of the validity of the said proclamation."

The journalist turned politician was planning to seize the firm’s assets, including dairy cows, in a bid to recover the debt.
