Bungoma county government to construct police post at Naitiri TVET

Bungoma County will put up a police post at Bungoma North Technical and Vocational Training College at Naitiri to beef up security at the institution.

The Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Bungoma North Mr.Obel Ojwang said that the administration in the area was treating the security of the institution with the seriousness that it deserves hence the need for a police post within the institution.

He said that locals had welcomed the establishment of the security installation in the institution positively and that they were ready to support programs being run in the area.

 Mr. Ojwang who was speaking to KNA Thursday pointed out the establishment of a digital platform as one of the programs at the institution that aimed at creating jobs for the youth.

The principal of the school Mr. Charles Opiyo said that the institution received 100 computers from the government for use at the digital laboratory.

Mr. Opiyo noted that the government had also supplied the institution with tractors for use in the agriculture department, a move that he said would also support the community.

 “As a centre of Agriculture and Agricultural engineering the government gave us machinery,” he said.  

He said that the college which stands on nine acres of land started four years ago and has an enrolment of 1500 students with 43 trainers out of which 25 have been employed by the Board of Governors while 18 by the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC).

Mr. Opiyo thanked the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB Foundation) for sponsoring 50 students to undertake various courses at the institution.

 He said that the digital program at the institution would go a long way in transforming the lives of the students and the community at large.

Students who spoke to KNA expressed their gratitude to the government for putting up the institution in the area saying it had brought training at the grassroots level.
