Busia Governor Dr. Paul Otuoma has emphasized the necessity of establishing county facilities that cater to sports.
Dr. Otuoma highlighted that sports can be a lucrative source of income if the talent is well-cultivated.
However, he said the county's sports performance is hindered by lack of access to international sports facilities, as most sportsmen are exposed to these facilities at the last minute.
The governor directed the local Department of Sports to actively participate in development of the under 18 Talanta Hela team, to enhance their performance.
The team showcases Busia County's ability to excel in all aspects of life, demonstrating the power of sports in uniting people.
Busia County Executive Committee Member for Sports, Paul Olunga said the County had a team of 25 girls all the way to the regional level, but they were defeated by Kakamega, where Busia clinched position two.
All the 25 played up to the nationals, but only 14 were back, as 11 of them were scouted by the Kenya Sports Academy for training.
Busia had the highest number of players that were scouted by Kenya Sports Academy and have remained at Kasarani for one week’s training.
The governor praised the team for sterling performance, adding that the County leadership needs to check weak links so as to improve and nurture talents among the youth.
