By Peter Ochieng

Former Chief Justice (CJ) Willy Munyoki Mutunga was on Saturday forced to take cover, after police at Central Police station, Nairobi teargassed him and others.

Mutunga who served as Chief Justice from 2013 to 2016 was at the police station in the company of others, to push for release of activists arrested during Saba Saba demos on Friday.

Photo journalist turned human rights defender Boniface Mwangi, was among those dispersed by police.

"Police have decided to teargas their work place, and beat some of us. This criminal act was ordered by OCS Central Police Station, Moses Mutayi. Our “Christian” government is doing the devil’s work. Happy Sabbath @WilliamsRuto and @rigathi. Continue undermining the Constitution," said Mwangi.

According to Mwangi, over 30 human rights activists are being held by police for taking part in the Friday protests. The protests were called by Azimio La Umoja One Kenya leader, Raila Odinga.

"Good morning @RailaOdinga, @MarthaKarua and the Azimio fratenity. 35 of your supporters were arrested yesterday. They’re are being held at Central Police Station. It’s your duty to get them released. Activists being held here are 32. The HRDs were arrested in the CBD," Mwangi said in another statement.

Odinga on Friday said they will be back on the streets for another round of demos on Wednesday next week.
