A man at Wamunyiri village, Kanduyi Constituency in Bungoma County who is said to be a church elder of Victory Church in Bungoma has left villagers in shock after brutally killing his wife and throwing the body in a trench behind his house.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, James Nabukuli, a village elder, said that he received a report from the villagers on Monday night informing him that the suspect Gerald Kamanga had killed his wife and escaped.

“I was informed by the locals on Monday at around 8pm that one of my villagers has killed his wife and escaped,” Nabukuli said.

The village elder says he contacted the area assistant chief, who rushed to the scene of crime and later called the police officers from the Bungoma police station.

Nabukuli said that on reaching the scene of crime, they found the body lying in a pool of blood covered with a blanket, bedsheet and clothes, but no family member was at home.

In addition, Nabukuli said that the body had serious injuries at the back of the head.

“It seems he used a sharp object to kill her, she had blood all over the body,” Nabukuli said.

He, however, noted that the two have been staying in peace with the neighbors saying that the incident has shocked many.

“We have stayed with the two for almost a year because they just joined us recently after purchasing this plot, they have been relating with us well, I have never received complaints from them or the neighbors,” he said.

He further disclosed that the family has three children one at Vihiga polytechnic, another one at Luanda Secondary school in Bungoma and the last born at Rio nursery school.

Nabukuli further said that they have received reports from the police station that the suspect has been arrested in Nyandarua County, while trying to commit suicide.

In an interview with Bishop Elijah Daniel of Victory Church, Bungoma, he stated that the suspect and the deceased are well known to the church saying that they were shocked about the incident.

“We are annoyed with this incident, they are our own people what we need is tolerance from both the family members, neighbors and the church as the police probe the matter,” Daniel said.

Bishop Daniel confirmed that Gerald is an elder in his Victory Church center in Bungoma, adding that he has known the duo as church loving people.

Bungoma County police commander, Francis Kooli, said that he received reports on Monday night informing him about the incident.

Kooli said that after committing the act, the suspect escaped to Kipipiri in Laikipia County and according to the reports received from the police in Laikipia County, the suspect also wanted to commit suicide by use of poison.

Kooli said that the suspect is currently under police custody as he waits to answer charges in court of law.

He asked couples to seek amicable ways of solving marriage conflicts.
