County employees directed to fly Renagade Air
By Peter Ochieng
Homabay County government staff have a new directive to content with.
They have been directed to fly Renagade Air, whenever they are travelling from the Nyanza county to Nairobi for official business.
According to a letter by Benard Muok, County Secretary addressed to all County Executive Committee Members (CECMs), all Chief Officers, County public service board and all staff, the directive takes effect immediately.
"According to the agreement, unless they are travelling on days when there are no scheduled flights, all county employees going to Nairobi on business shall going foward be booked on Renagade Air," said Muok.
The letter is dated 13th June, 2023, a day after the airline's inaugural flight from Nairobi to Kabunde airstrip in Homabay county.
It is copied to Homabay governor and her deputy.
The order is in tandem with the directive issued by governor Gladys Wanga on Monday, in a bid to ensure that the airline breaks even and maintains operations on the Nairobi - Homabay route.
"For long time sustainability, the airline and the county have committed to make sure the route is viable. This airline is a business enterprise that only operates where it can break even," said Muok.
"The purpose of this letter is to direct that all official flights out of Homabay must be on Renagade Air, and the county will not bear any cost on flights that are not on Renagade Air. Exceptions are made for authorised trips that take place outside of the scheduled flight days," he added.
Renagade Air will operate flights on the Nairobi - Homabay route thrice per week.
That is Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Tickets are being sold from Sh7, 600
