Four men and two women were today rushed to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital with gunshot wounds during the second day of protests in the township.

The six were rushed to hospital for emergency medication with diverse degrees of injuries.

One of the victims Abdi Rashid said he was shot inside his house as he was engaged in a repair work on his door.

The incident occurred when some protesting youths engaged anti-riot police near Kotieno area in Shauri Yako Estate on the outskirts of Homa Bay town.

Rashid said some protesting youths ran into his residence to seek refuge as the fracas went on.

“Something suddenly hit my groin but I didn’t feel the pain immediately, however my long trousers suddenly become soaked in blood,” Rashid said.

He said he was rushed to the hospital by a boda boda rider.

The hospital Chief Executive Officer Peter Ogola said after an X ray, it was established Rashid had a bullet lodged his body.

He said one other male patient also had a bullet lodged in the body while four other patients had injuries on their legs.

“We have received six people with injuries in the legs. Two men have foreign objects lodged in their bodies,” Ogola said.

The medic said they are likely to discharge two men and two women after treating them. He said all the patients are in stable condition.

Some of the injured persons were taken to the hospital by the Kenya Red Cross officers. The patients were received while bleeding.

“The two men who have bullets lodged in their bodies will be taken to the theater,” Ogola added.

The protesters are still continuing with running battles with the police as businesses remained paralysed in the town.
