Interior and National Coordination Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i was on Tuesday put to task over a report he shared with members of the public concerning properties owned by Deputy President William Ruto.
Matiang’i had in 2021 revealed that the DP’s properties were being guarded by over 257 police officers.
He made the revelations following claims that Ruto’s security details had been downgraded.
But while appearing before the National Assembly Security Committee, the CS was at pains to explain the details of the properties he had mentioned, after nominated Member of Parliament David Ole Sankok accused him of providing inaccurate information.

Ole Sankok was seeking proof of ownership of a piece of land in Laikipia that Matiang’i had mentioned was owned by the DP.
“Such pronouncement by the CS that the DP owns the land attracts public interest. He should just tell us he lied, he doesn’t have the information and knows not who owns the land," Sankok said.
Responding to the legislator, the CS said the report he issued was not about properties owned by the DP but was only providing details of areas where the government has invested in security on the virtue of it having interests from the second in command.
“What I presented is areas where we have made deployment. There was no presentation of what the DP owns. We did not insinuate he owns the land,” Matiang'i told the parliamentary committee.
The CS further said the issue of ownership of land was not on his docket, but that of the Ministry of Lands.
Matiang’i however promised to provide more details on who owns the said land within a fortnight.
“There is correspondence on some of these issues. I don’t want to engage in what would appear like a political issue. I am prepared to bring written information,” he said.
