Details of ODM aspirants' letter to Raila

ODM leader Raila Odinga may find himself in a tricky situation, after a section of aspirants in Kisii County wrote to him asking for direct nominations, ahead of the August 09, 2022 polls.
The letter is dated April 4. The letter followed a series of meetings with the members of the party’s National Elections Board (NEB), chaired by Catherine Mumma.
“The chair indicated that the party through the NEB shall conduct its primaries where there is more than one applicant for the same position through: Consensus among candidates, Party and Community representatives, direct nominations, the use of the delegates system through the Electoral College system and Universal suffrage of registered party members,” the letter reads in part, as quoted by Citizen Digital.

“The party invested heavily on the scientific method and has already gotten the results of the various reports on the performance of the candidates. The method has since seen the NEB through your guidance issue some of the candidates direct tickets across the country,” adds the letter.
They also want ODM nominations slated for April 07 in Kisii County to be postponed for at least 10 days.
However in a rejoinder, Mumma said the party will not issue a direct ticket to somebody who may end up losing in August.
“We are not going to use an opinion poll to give a ticket to somebody who you know is going to lose. We will not necessarily give a person a direct ticket in some of the strongholds. It may be better to actually let the competitors run at the primaries,” she said.
