Ecstatic scenes as Gachagua opens 2024 ASK Nairobi International trade fair

Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has, on behalf of President William Ruto, officially opened the 2024 ASK Nairobi International trade fair at the ASK Jamhuri show grounds in Nairobi on Wednesday afternoon. 

Gachagua noted that the ASK shows are a key component in building the capacity of Kenya's farmers towards achieving food security and industrialisation. 

The event which started on Monday 23rd is has attracted Agri-business entrepreneur, farmers, investors and exhibitiors and other stakeholders from the agricultural sector. 

Tickets have been going for Ksh. 300 for adults and Ksh. 250 for children while special parties of more than 10 are charged at Ksh.250 for adults and Ksh. 200 for children. 

Monday witnessed a package of activities with the primary being Judging and business while Tuesday was set for livestock exhibitions, Today being set for the official launch, Thursday will host A. S. K members while Friday is Deputy patrons day. The Show which is expected to end on Sunday, 29 September is set for Family day on the weekend package. 

This has been the 123rd edition of the fair themed at "Promotion climate - smart agriculture and trade initiatives for sustainable economic growth".

The 2024 exhibition has featured new participants including the International Organization for Migration(IOM), the Lamu port South Sudan- Ethiopia transport (Lapsset) corridor development Authority and CFAO group, all showcasing innovations in farming, trade and sustainability. 

The show has also attracted more than 300 exhibitors from atleast 10 countries including Pakistan, Argentina, Mozambique, Malawi and Tanzania making it a global experience. 

This year's event will highlight innovations adressing the challanges faced by livestock farmers. This include dairy goat breeds and breeding, focusing on selected high-yield goat breed to enhance productivity. 

There will also be housing and feeding technology designed to improve goat housing and nutrition for better milk production. 

Moreover, guests and farmers will be shown marketing strategies for indigenous chickens, offering techniques to boost market acess and income to farmers alongside advanced methods of disease prevention and management in the industry. 

The exhibition will also sample innovations that will help farmers learn best practices on crop and animal husbandry for high productivity.
