Enlisting of the elderly continues in Nakuru East

Nakuru East Senior Deputy County Commissioner Were Simiyu has called on care givers to ensure all elderly persons are enlisted for Inua Jamii, as the exercise entered its second day in Nakuru County.

The exercise that commenced on Friday at Barut Chiefs Camp, in Nakuru West, kicked off this morning with registration at Rhonda market targeting senior citizens aged 70 and above.

The exercise will continue Tuesday at Mogoon Chief’s camp in Kapkures Location, followed by Kwa Musumba church on Wednesday.

“Everybody born before 1953 is being enlisted to benefit from Sh2, 000 every month as stipend until September 15, this year.

“This is across the board and everyone will be enlisted for the money unless they are on pension from the government,” added Were.

He noted that the dignity of the senior citizens had to be upheld so that they would afford to continue with their livelihoods and even access medication from government facilities across the country.

He assured the residents of a seamless and non-partisan process, echoing President William Ruto’s stand on corrupt individuals, adding that those found culpable will be dealt with accordingly.

“If you are thinking of taking advantage of government policies for self-enrichment, you should prepare to leave the country or wait to go to jail or die,” he remarked, noting that all government officers had been called to uphold dignity and honor to the republic of Kenya.

The government has since up-scaled the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programme to accommodate more with 2.5 million persons set to be enlisted across the country in three years.

The ongoing registration targets to enlist 500, 000 new applicants aged 70 and above.
