Immediate former Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter has finally broken his silence following an unexpected loss in his bid to be the next Kericho Senator.
Keter, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto lost the UDA nomination for the governor seat to newcomer Dr. Eric Mutai.
Popularly referred to as the ‘equalizer’, Dr. Mutai won the UDA nominations after garnering 126,038 while Keter got 60,342 votes.
Taking to his social media, the former CS seemed to concede defeat as he congratulated all that won the UDA nominations.
He also thanked all that supported his bid, under the tag ‘the transformer’.
“I thank the great people of Kericho for turning up to vote peacefully in the just concluded nominations exercise. Congratulations to all winners I wish them all the best,” he tweeted.
“To all my supporters, agents, and teams, I convey my appreciation and gratitude for your support. God bless you and God bless Kericho,” Keter added in another tweet.
Formerly a Member of Parliament and also a Senator for Kericho before being appointed to the Cabinet role, Keter had been considered a favorite to clinch the UDA ticket when he announced his resignation as a CS.
However, a spirited campaign from Dr. Mutai turned the tables, as he quickly become the locals’ favorite.
At one time, voters held an impromptu fundraiser for his campaigns.
Towards the end of the nomination campaigns, Dr. Mutai teamed up with Eng. Fred Kirui who was also eyeing the gubernatorial seat.
Keter is among a number of DP Ruto's close allies that were floored in the just concluded UDA nominations.
Others that faced the same fate are Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany who finished a distant fourth in the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial race and Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru who lost in her bid to get the Laikipia East MP ticket.
