Ex Nigeria president to facilitate dialogue between Azimio, Kenya Kwanza
By Peter Ochieng
Kenya Kwanza and Azimio leaders have finally agreed to give dialogue a chance.
The talks, according to a statement jointly signed by Majority leader in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung'wah and his Minority counterpart Opiyo Wandayi, will be facilitated by former Nigeria President Olesegun Obasanjo.
The talks will bring together president William Ruto's faction Kenya Kwanza and Raila Odinga's Azimio, in a bid to push for long lasting peace, after weeks of anti-government protests spearheaded by Azimio.
"We, the leadership of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party, having consulted with the leadership of Kenya Kwanza under the facilitation of Olusegun Obasanjo on the state of our nation, desirous of a democratic and peaceful resolution of issues that beset our nation."
"Expressing our condemnation and regret on the violence that has visited our nation with loss of life, serious injuries and the destruction of property, affirming our commitment to adherence to the constitution and the rule of law, determined to resolve our differences amicably for the benefit of all our people, we have therefore agreed with Kenya Kwanza to establish a committee of ten (10), composed of five members each from Azimio La Umoja and Kenya Kwanza," the statement reads.
It is not clear whether Azimio will insist that talks centre on lowering the cost of living, openning of 2022 presidential election servers and suspending the process of recruiting new IEBC chairperson and commissioners.
