The Orange Democratic Movement party leaders from the North Rift region have urged their party leader to appoint members from the region to the positions of Principal Secretaries of the new cabinet.

Their remarks come after President William Ruto nominated some members from the ODM party to serve as cabinet secretaries to his administration.

Speaking to the press, on Friday, August 16, 2024, leaders led by Keiyo Member of County Assembly, Kennedy Mugush called on party leader Raila Odinga to reward the devoted party members PS positions.

They stated that they have fought for ODM and garnered influence and victory in the grassroots, making it firm thus they deserve the positions as a motivation to continue stabilizing the party.

On the other hand, they have asked the new Cabinet Secretaries to create jobs for the young people who have qualified as a way of minimizing the rate of unemployment among youths that keep skyrocketing.

Vast numbers of Kenyans praised Ruto for creating a broad-based government by including members from Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance with the aim of strengthening the government administration.

Despite Ruto's decision welcomed by the majority of leaders and Kenyans, some Azimio principals opposed it stating that the ODM party betrayed the coalition's principles by joining the government and started supporting the Kenya Kwanza agenda.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga refuted the claims from Azimio principals responding that ODM has not joined the government but it has only joined their efforts to work with the government towards the thriving economy of the nation for the benefits of the Kenyans.

President Ruto while in Nyamira County clarified that the government has not formed any coalition with the ODM party instead they have decided to build the nation.

Ruto defended his decision that it is time to put aside political differences, tribalism, ethnicity and work as a team to achieve government agenda to ensure they benefit from services delivered to them.
