Family Rendered Homeless After Lightning

A family in Homa Bay is counting losses after losing their house when lightning struck, burning it to ashes last Tuesday amid a heavy rainfall.

The family of three who hail in Wahambla village, East Kanyada Location were reportedly away at the time of the incident.

The head of the family Kennedy Ochieng said they received information from neighbours that their house was on fire at around 6:30pm that evening.

“Upon arrival, we found our house and all of our possessions completely consumed by the fire,” he lamented.

His wife and child were away in town during this dreadful incident that destroyed their property worth thousands of shillings.

The family was forced to spend the night at a relative’s house.

The area chief John Ndiga Akado confirmed that the family lost all of their household items to the fire.

He noted there were no casualties reported and appealed to well-wishers to provide any kind of support to the family who are now homeless.

He however cautioned residents to be more careful during this rainy season to prevent such cases which he said could lead to loss of lives.
