Farmers to receive special animal feeds to boost milk production

 Homa Bay county government in partnership with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO) in Sh25million project that will boost milk production in the county.

The project that will be implemented through First Bridge Foundation kicked off with the distribution of livestock feeds and farm input to drought-hit farmers across 11 wards in the county.

 Speaking today during the flagging off exercise at the government’s headquarters, the Country Director of First Bridge Foundation Dr. Bernard Kocholla said the project will equip farmers with the resources they need to overcome challenges of drought.

Governor Gladys Wanga who flagged off the exercise said their goal was to improve livestock productivity while at the same time mitigate the impact of drought in drought-hit areas.

"We have flagged off the distribution of 5000 bags (50kg each) of special animal feeds to boost milk production, 15000 vaccines, and dewormers to farmers with an aim of increasing livestock productivity," she noted.

Approximately 1500 farmers will benefit from the 250,000 kilograms of animal feeds.

 The beneficiary farmers are from Lambwe, Kosewe, Ruma Kaksingri East, Gwassi North and Gwassi South, Kaksingri West, Gembe, Kanyikela, Kanyadoto, South Kabuoch, Kosewe and Kwabwai wards within Suba North, Suba South and Rangwe sub-counties.

“We appreciate this support and we believe it will go a long way in making a difference in productivity for our farmers,” she reiterated.
