Three suspects are in custody at Homa Bay police station in connection with the bizarre incidents in which cattle were stabbed in some parts of the county

The suspects were arrested today following an incident in which six cattle were stabbed in various villages in Kanyabala Location, Homa Bay Sub-county.

North Kanyabala Assistant Chief Mr Washington Kidew said that the latest incident of the animal attacks occurred on Wednesday at dawn, leaving four farmers with heavy losses.

He said they arrested three suspects and handed them to the police. One of the affected farmers Mr Joseph Nyauke lost two cows and one bull to the bizarre stabbings.

Nyauke who is a resident of Kobwana Village in North Kanyabala Sub-location said he was shocked to discover his animals dead when he went to milk his cows Wednesday morning.

He said he found one cow lying and when he looked at the right side of the belly, he discovered its intestines were pouring out and when he looked at the left side of the belly and saw another wound with intestines.

“I was going to milk my cow but I discovered that both sides of the belly had serious wounds with protruding intestines,” Nyauke said.

He then made a phone call to the homestead of his second wife where he discovered that a bull and a cow had also been stabbed.

“I called my wife who told me that she was also going to milk another cow but she found it had been stabbed too. A few minutes later, she discovered a bull had also been stabbed,” Nyauke said.

Nyauke said they had to dispose of the cattle carcasses since the intentions of the assailants who stabbed them were unknown.

“We did not know whether the assailants who stabbed the cattle had other ill motives for harming human beings. We had to dispose of the carcasses of the cattle,” he added.

The incidents of stabbing used to be rampant in parts of the county more than a year ago but they are now recurring.

Homa Bay Sub-County Police Commander Peter Maluki said the suspects are being interrogated over the incident. “The matter is under investigation to help us take punitive legal measures against perpetrators,” Maluki said.
