Bungoma: Sh200 million to implement Primary Healthcare initiatives
By Peter Ochieng
Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka on Thursday re-affirmed his administration's commitment to ensure residents get quality and affordable healthcare.
He spoke during the launch of Primary Health Care (PHC) at Mechimeru health centre, in Kanduyi constituency.
He said the launch of PHC is a demonstration of his commitment and that of the county government, towards global, national and regional efforts to accelerate Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
"This is a global agenda towards promoting health services to be more accessible, affordable and acceptable to the communities in Bungoma," said the county chief.
The governor said his government has allocated Sh200 million this financial year, for implementation of PHC activities and initiatives in the Western region devolved unit.
"This is the first budget line to considered an allocation specifically for PHC since the onset of devolution in 2013."
Similarly, in collaboration with development partners, the governor launched a PHC caravan which will be instrumental in promoting proactive outreach services to the communities.
He said the county government is establishing health centres in all 45 wards, besides working towards the upgrade of 26 dispensaries.
