Fisherman found dead in Lake Victoria

 A body of a fisherman has been discovered dead in Lake Victoria in a suspected murder incident. 

37-year-old Benard Obonyo, from Ringiti Island in Suba Central Sub- County went missing on Tuesday only for his body to be discovered Thursday, floating on the lake.

The Treasurer of Ringiti Island Beach Management Unit (BMU) Daniel Sure said they suspect Obonyo was murdered before his body was dumped in the lake.

He said that the body had visible injuries including deep cuts which were noticeable on his neck and other parts of the body.

"The body was spotted floating on the lake. It was spotted by some fishermen who went to bathe at the lake shore," Sure said.

The body was retrieved from the lake by a group of fishermen.

Homa Bay County Police Commander Samson Kinne said they have begun investigations into the incident.

“We have started investigations into the death. Let residents co-operate with security officers to unravel the matter,” Kinne said.

The fisherman’s body was moved to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
