Heavy rains have rendered some roads impassable in rural areas in Homa Bay county posing a challenge to delivery of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams to schools.
In Nhiwa Sub County, some exams officials were forced to board a tractor to cross River Oyombe enroute to Maranyona and Ligodho mixed secondary schools in Kanyadoto ward.
The officials could not cross River Oyombe which had burst its banks Monday morning.
A tractor that was passing by came to their aid before they proceeded to their respective examination centers.
Meanwhile, Homa Bay Sub-County Education Director Ziada Osano has assured that they had put in place measures to ensure KCSE exams are delivered to various schools in time despite the bad weather.
“We have put measures in place to ensure the KCSE exams are delivered on time for the smooth administration of the exams,” Osano said.
She said two vehicles were on standby to assist exam officials with difficulties delivering the exams to schools.
“Some roads have been cut off due to heavy rains pounding this area. In such areas, the officials will walk a short distance to reach the school but with the exams properly secured,” Osano said.
The Official told teachers manning the exams to ensure they follow rules set by the Kenya National Examination Council.
"Let the center managers keep time especially in the afternoon after completion of an examination,” Osano said.
