Former FKF CEO Barry Otieno Declares Candidature in FKF Presidency

Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF)CEO Barry Otieno has declared his candidacy for FKF President, 11 days afters resigning as CEO of the Federation where he served for 5 years. 

"I wish to announce my candidacy for the Presidency of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) after serving as the Federation's General secretary /Chief Operating officer for the past five years, I have decided to take this step with a vision to elevate Kenyan football to new heights."Barry stated in a Press release on Sunday, 13 October, 2024. 

His visions are to build a stronger, more inclusive and more Sucessful football nation by developing football beyond the pitch.

Barry will focus on four key areas which are club empowerment, improving FKF's ailing governance structure, Holistic development where he targets to extend football beyond other avenues by leveraging on commercialization, communication and capacity building. Lastly he will focus on talent mapping and grassroot development of football to empower emerging talents. 

"Our team believes in the immense potential of Kenyan football, with your support, we can transform this potential into reality. Together we can build a Federation that not only wins in the pitch but excels in governance, development and administration." Barry stated. 

Following his resignation, Barry's position as CEO was occupied by City Stars CEO Patrick Korir on interim basis.

Barry's journey With FKF begun in 2016 as communications manager before being promoted to head of communicationa and marketing in 2017. He described his experience with FKF as "transformative and rewarding". 

Current President Nick Mwendwa has not made clear who to support as he concludes his two-term tenure but speculation rife he would be fronting his Vice-President Doris Petra for the top seat

Meanwhile Barry will face stiff competition fromTom Alila and Hussein Mohamed who launched his candidacy at a fashionable event. Hussein will be running alongside Former Harambee stars strike Mcdonald Mariga.

The Hussein - Mariga ticket is seen as a favorite following endorsements from household sports commentators and football legends including Carol Radull, Fred Arocho and Former Harambee stars captain Victor Wanyama. 

Former Bafana Bafana goal getter Benni McCarthy who also endorsed Hussein and Mariga's candidature through an online video, belives that Ex players should be involved in running federations in Africa. 

The much-awaited Football Kenya Federation (FKF) national elections will be held on December 7 this year. They will be preceded by the County polls that will be held on November 9.
