Fuel prices to go down next month, says Ruto

President William Ruto has assured Kenyans that fuel prices will go down from the month of December, providing a much needed relief.

Pump prices have steadily been rising in the country, since Ruto succeeded retired president Uhuru Kenyatta in September, 2022.

A litre of diesel, petrol and kerosene is now over Sh200 up from below Sh150 when Kenyatta left upon elapse of his two terms in office.

Speaking on Saturday after launching the construction of the Sagana -Kathaka-Thiguku road in Ndia, Kirinyaga County, Ruto said he is aware that fuel prices have risen beyond expected rates.

He however promised Kenyans that starting next month, they will witness a big change.

"Prices of fuel are going up all over the world and we are just following the trends, but we have looked for ways to ensure that prices do not go further to an extend of hurting most Kenyans. You have seen from this month prices have started going down," said Ruto.

This week, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) in its fuel review this month maintained the price of a litre of super petrol, while reducing the price of a litre of kerosene and diesel by Sh2.

“Mwezi ujao itateremka zaidi, na mwezi huo mwingine hivyo hivyo…mpaka tuahakikishe tunaweza kuendesha uchumi wetu vile inafaa," added the Head of State.

This translates to, "Next month, prices will come down further and that other month like that until we ensure we can run our economy as required."

He said despite the unfavourable prices, Kenyans are no longer lining up at petrol stations due to fuel shortage, as was the case during Kenyatta's last months in office.

President Ruto poured cold water on claims that Tanzania and Uganda have cheaper fuel than Kenya
