Gem Member of Parliament, Elisha Ochieng Odhiambo has called on Azimio la Umoja leader, Raila Odinga to take a step backwards in order to foster peace in the country.
Odhiambo said that being a champion of democracy in Kenya, Raila needs to develop a new strategy that will not hurt the country and its citizens, especially school going children who are forced to skip school, whenever Azimio la Umoja calls for demonstrations.
The MP was speaking at his Mutumbu village home in North Gem location, Siaya County where he met Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) grassroots officials from Gem constituency.
Odhiambo challenged the country’s political giants, Raila Odinga, President Dr. William Ruto and former president Uhuru Kenyatta to show their statesmanship and not allow the country to burn.
“I know Raila loves Kenya. The democracy that we enjoy in Kenya is because of him. I also know that president Ruto is God loving and will not allow the country to burn,” said the legislator, who told the former president to live up to his role as a peace maker and help cool the rising political temperature in the country.
The MP further called on people close to the country’s political leadership to drop their hardline positions and help make those they serve see the importance of peace.
“Think about our children who are forced to skip schools whenever demonstrations are called. Is it fair for the?” he posed.
The legislator called on Kenyans to be patriotic and love their country, adding that acts that can lead to bloodshed and destruction of the country must be kept at bay.
Odhiambo at the same time announced that he was in ODM to stay and no amount of pressure will make him ditch the party.
The legislator revealed that he will be vying for the party’s secretary general’s position in future.
