Twelve primary schools in Githunguri constituencies in Kiambu County have benefited from water tanks, courtesy of the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF).

Each primary school received two water takes with a capacity of 10,000 liters to improve hygiene and ensure students concentrate on education.

Speaking during the donation ceremony at Githunguri sub county commissioner’s office grounds, area MP Gathoni Wamuchomba said the vision is to help solve water problems in schools.

"Water supply and sanitation in most rural schools in Kiambu county are inadequate and sometimes do not exist at all. In most cases, school children have no source of water within their vicinity, forcing students in some of these schools to spend more time searching for the precious commodity at the expense of class time," she noted.

Wamuchomba also urged teachers to ensure the water tanks are in use and stop sending pupils to water springs to fetch water during class time.

"It is in light of this adversity, that I started the distribution of water tanks to encourage water harvesting to supplement existing sources…Plans are underway to ensure all public schools in our constituency will have a water tank to store water," said the MP.

In a bit to empower and encourage Community Health promoters (CHPs) working in the Githunguri sub-county, Wamuchomba launched a welfare CBO to care for their social needs.

“CHPs are key in driving President Ruto’s agenda of providing Primary health care to everybody, and today I have opened a welfare CBO for our 255 CHPs and deposited Sh200,000 so they can take loans at a lower interest and help care for their social needs” stated Wamuchomba.

Through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF) the MP also launched a Dairy training course, where farmers will be trained for free on Cow Management and Dairy Formulation.

“We have already registered 100 farmers to join our newly established Dairy Training Institute, for Sh1.1 Million…Milk is ‘white gold’ in this area, every month there is the circulation of up to Sh5 billion in Githunguri sub county just out of selling milk, hence there is a need to empower our farmers on cow management,” remarked Wamuchomba.
