A Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) candidate in Kericho gave birth Monday to a bouncing baby boy.

Confirming the incident, the Kericho County director of education Julius Ngoneshi said the grade six candidate from Kerego Primary School in Kericho delivered the baby hours after the national examinations had started before the invigilators and education officials rushed her to Kericho County Referral Hospital.

According to Mr. Ngoneshi, the teenage mother is reported to be in a stable condition and was able to comfortably sit for her examination from the maternity hospital bed. 

Meanwhile, a standard 8 candidate sitting for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examination (KCPE) from Kimugu Primary School on Monday sat for the exams from the Central Hospital in Kericho after undergoing a surgical operation on his leg, Ngoneshi told KNA.

At the same time, the County director revealed that another KCPE candidate who hails from Kitui sat for his exams from Kericho rehabilitation centre.

The CDE further told KNA that a total of 35,273 candidates are sitting for the KCPE examinations in Kericho County, out of these, 29,823 candidates are from public schools, while, 5054 candidates are from Private schools.

15,410 candidates are boys while 14,412 are girls from public schools in Kericho County, whereas 2588 candidates are boys while 2861 are girls from Private school in Kericho County.

There are a total of 745 examination centres in Kericho county including one adult centre and two centres in Kericho GK Prison, where a total of 39 inn mates are sitting for their KCPE exams.

At the Kericho GK prisons, there are 37 males and 2 female candidates Mr. Ngoneshi added.

 In Kericho County, a total of 21382 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) grade 6 candidates are sitting for the national examinations in a total of 793 examination centres.

KPSEA candidates in public schools are a total of 21,382 candidates among them 11,125 boys and 10,262 girls while in private schools there are a total of 5202 candidates who include 2699 boys and 2503 girls.

The grade 3 candidates for Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) Kericho County totals to 18 with six boys and 12 girls in one examination centre in Kipkelion.
