Godliver Omondi: Former nominated Senator is dead

Former nominated Senator Godliver Nanjira Omondi is dead.

Until her death on Monday, she was serving as a nominated Member of the County Assembly (MCA) in Kakamega county.

She was nominated by the Raila Odinga led Orange Democtratic Movement (ODM) party.

She died while receiving treatment at Agha Khan hospital in Kisumu, after allegedly suffering from a heart condition for a short period.

From 2013 to 2017, Omondi served as nominated Senator, a slot handed to her by the ODM party.

She 'went back home' in 2017, and got elected Kholera Ward MCA, before landing the MCA nomination slot in 2022.

Her colleagues in the Assembly turned to social media platforms to mourn her, immediately the news of her demise went public.

"I have received news of the passing on of Godliver Omondi with great sorrow. I will remember Mama Godliver as a soft spoken and humble servant of the people who meant well for the people of Matungu and Kakamega County in general," wrote Sarah Netia, a fellow nominated MCA.

"My heartfelt condolences to her family for the untimely loss of the MCA. May God give the family grace and fortitude to bear the bereavement. County Assembly of Kakamega will dearly miss you. Fare thee well mama," she added.

Burial plans are expected to be communicated in the coming days.
