Narok County Commissioner Isaac Masinde has asked all parents whose children sat for last year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams to ensure their children are enrolled in secondary schools.

Masinde said all children had been given a chance to join a secondary school regardless of the marks they had scored hence calling on parents to give their children a decent future by allowing them to join high schools.

He said already 52 percent of the students have been admitted to secondary schools in the county, calling on parents who are yet to send their children back to school to take them immediately.

Chiefs should collaborate with parents to ensure that all children in their localities are admitted to schools.

He said he is aware that some parents were facing challenges of school fees calling on school principals to admit them as they look for sponsors and bursaries.

A spot check at some secondary schools showed long queues as parents struggled to admit their children to school.

At Narok High School, the process of admission started on Tuesday and went smoothly as parents and the new students were taken through the process by the teachers.

According to Narok High School Chief Principal Mr. David Kirui, the school is anticipating to admit over 400 students.

“We are continuing well with the admission. So far we have admitted 31 students by 9 am and we expect more to come. The Ministry of Education has allocated us 477 slots for form ones and we look forward to filling those slots,” he said.

Mr. Kirui also added that many requests are coming from parents seeking chances to have their students join the school.

“Parents are coming to ask for slots, and some are even calling to request for form one chances. We are happy they are interested in our school but we have to ensure those who were allocated to join us are admitted first. But we are open and we will consider them,” he added.

In the neighboring Maasai Girls’ School, parents scrambled for form one slots, a gesture that many female students in the county had chosen to join the school.

Form one admission is supposed to be completed by 26th January according to the Ministry of Education.
