The National Government has reiterated its commitment to protect Mara Triangle from any form of encroachment.
Speaking to Kenya News Agency (KNA), Transmara South Deputy County Commissioner Abdihakim Mohamud said that the National Government will use all powers to ensure that no inch of the 15 kilometers square stretch is lost to encroachers.
Terming it as an international heritage which all Kenyans should be proud off, Mr Mohamud called for a collaborative effort between the public, Narok County Government and the National Government to ensure protection of the Triangle for posterity.
"This Mara heritage has far reaching benefits not only to the people of Transmara South and Kenya as a Country but the entire world.
Therefore, the government will not just watch as Mara Triangle is destroyed," he said as he warned against those out to politicise the issue and incite residents.
Meanwhile, the DCC cautioned against sand harvesting on roads pointing out that it's illegal as he revealed mechanisms put in place to arrest the perpetrators.
Adding that the illegal activity has contributed to worsening condition of roads in the region, Mohamud said that soon it will be a thing of the past.
" I want to reveal that our security team with the help of relevant stakeholders have put in place tools to ensure that we apprehend all those who are responsible for illegal sand harvesting on our roads," he said.
