Kajiado Governor, Joseph ole Lenku has said the county administration is keen on ensuring that all its residents access affordable health care services with ease.

Speaking while commissioning Ewangan Health Centre in Poka Kenyawa Ward, Kajiado East Constituency, the Governor noted that many residents usually have to cover long distances, while incurring transport costs to access health centers.

The Level 3 Hospital is accredited to the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), making access to medical services affordable to the local residents.

Lenku assured that situation will soon change as his administration has already commissioned level 4 and level 3 hospitals in almost every Sub-county.

The Governor noted that in a few months’ time, he will also commission Samuli Health Centre in the same Ward.

Ewangan Health Centre will be offering Maternal Child Health/Child Welfare Clinic services, Family Planning services, Antenatal and Postnatal Clinic and Immunization services.

Random Blood Sugar, Blood Grouping, Hynalysis, Stool Microscopy, Salmonella Typhy, H Pylori, Brucella and Pregnancy Tests will be carried out in its laboratory.

Thanking the Governor for allocating funds for the construction of the hospital, Poka Kenyawa Ward Member of County Assembly, Benard Moloma, urged him to hire two emergency nurses, who will ensure that the hospital runs smoothly.

Joyce Nasieku, a resident in the area, said that the hospital will help reduce maternal deaths related to childbirths.

“Sometimes an expectant mother begins to labour at night and there being no hospital nearby, they have to travel to Mashuuru and Isara, which are far flung putting their lives in danger.

“We are grateful that we can now access the critical care at our doorstep,” said Nasieku.

The hospital has also been equipped with one motorcycle ambulance, which will help expectant mothers in the remote area to access medical services with ease.
