The Government through the Ministry of Interior has declared Friday, April 29 a National Holiday.
Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang'i announced that April 29 will be a national holiday to accord late President Mwai Kibaki a befitting State funeral.
The State funeral will be held at Nyayo National Stadium after which he will be laid to rest on April 30 at his Othaya home, Nyeri county.
Meanwhile, the first meeting of members of Kibaki's National Funeral Steering Committee was held on Saturday, April 23, 2022.
Addressing the media after the meeting, CS Matiang'i said Kibaki's body will lie in state in the National Assembly buildings, Nairobi for three days, from Monday, April 25, 2022, to Wednesday, April 27, 2022.
Kibaki served as Kenya's third president from 2002 to 2013. While announcing his demise on Friday, April 22, 2022, President Uhuru Kenya said the Country had lost an astute economist.
