Importance of key effective communication skills

Effective communication skills are crucial in addressing the challenges faced by young girls and women in Narok County at the grassroots levels.

This was manifested during a two-day sensitization training by the African Medical and Research Foundation(AMREF) in Narok, which brought together youth leaders represented from the 30 wards.

Speaking during a panel discussion, Kibiwott Ibrahim led through discussions where participants shared experiences, noting major obstacles and solutions on ending Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and other gender-based evils facing women and girls.

Stanley Ole Surum, a Narok East Constituency youth, appreciated his ongoing campaign to educate others about negative culture in his village.

On her part, Stacy Nasinkoi, FGM Champion and Survivor from Narok East reported that through awareness efforts, school-going girls and women in her village have learned to fight against evils and uphold their rights.

Nicholas Nkukuu, Chief Suswa Location, Narok East admitted that cases on FGM have dropped with support of Nyumba Kumi elders who have collaborated to end the vice, which has legal repercussion on culprits.

Jane Soipan, President of Narok's female youth caucus has also mobilized survivors and non-survivors to share experiences and raise awareness against FGM.
